Terms of Service

Plain terms for a site
that holds nothing

This website is informational. It takes no accounts, holds no keys, and custodies no funds, so most of what follows is a description of what we cannot do rather than a list of rights we reserve.

Who operates this site

decentralchain.io is operated by DecentralExchange, Cédula Jurídica 3-102-956858, of Jacó, Garabito, Costa Rica. Where these terms say “we” or “us”, they mean that entity.

“DecentralChain” is the name of the blockchain protocol and of this website. It is not a separate legal person. Using this site means you accept these terms; if you do not, stop using it.

What this site is

A set of static pages describing an open blockchain protocol and the software built around it. There is no account to create, no login, and no server of ours that receives your activity — the privacy page sets out exactly how little that is.

Careful
We are not a financial service, an exchange, a broker, or a custodian. We never take possession of your assets, never hold your keys, and have no ability to move, freeze, seize, or restore anything you own on the chain.

Nothing here is advice

Nothing on this site is investment, financial, legal, accounting, or tax advice, and nothing on it is an offer to sell or a solicitation to buy any asset or security in any jurisdiction.

Descriptions of DecentralCoin — including supply, allocation, and release schedules — are descriptive statements about how the protocol is designed. They are not a promise of value, a forecast of price, or a commitment that any schedule will be met. Digital assets can lose all of their value, and you are responsible for your own decisions.

Licensing is not uniform

The licence depends on which piece you mean, and assuming one covers all of them is a mistake worth avoiding before you build on any of it. The node is MIT. The documentation is Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0, which is not a software licence and carries a non-commercial term. Cubensis Connect is proprietary: source available, all rights reserved, and it forbids copying, modifying and redistribution.

Check the LICENSE file in the repository you are actually using rather than relying on a statement here. Where software is provided under MIT it is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, and its authors and copyright holders are not liable for claims arising from it.

Documentation and code samples on this site may contain errors, and behaviour may change between versions. Verify against the source before depending on either.

The chain is public and final

DecentralChain is a public, permissionless ledger operated by independent participants rather than by us. Two consequences follow, and both are properties of the design rather than policies we chose:

  • Transactions cannot be reversed. We cannot undo a transfer, recover funds sent to a wrong address, or restore a lost seed phrase. Nobody can.
  • On-chain data is permanent and public. Every balance, transaction, and lease is readable by anyone, indefinitely, and cannot be deleted on request.

We do not control the network, cannot guarantee its availability, and do not warrant that it will remain free of faults or interruption.

Acceptable use

Do not use this site to:

  • Attack, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to it or the network.
  • Misrepresent an affiliation with us, or present modified copies of this site as official.
  • Break the law in your own jurisdiction, which remains your responsibility.
Careful
Found a vulnerability? Do not post it publicly. Email info@decentralchain.io — acknowledgement inside 48 hours, and the full policy is on the security page. Good-faith research reported this way is welcome.

Third-party applications

Ecosystem applications and community channels linked from this site may be operated by other people under their own terms and privacy policies. A link is not an endorsement, and we are not responsible for what those services do. Wallets, exchanges, and bridges carry their own risks, which you accept when you use them.

Liability

This site is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of information.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss, or for lost profits, lost assets, or lost data, arising from your use of this site, the protocol, or anything linked from here. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

Changes

These terms may change. The version in effect is the one published here, with the date shown at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Costa Rica, and the competent courts of Costa Rica have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
